The Trees' Farewell

from by Steven C. Davis

lyrics

The willows bend to the river
Their leaves whispering, kissing,
Their branches enfolding,
Crying their last farewells.

The leaves drift down from the woodlands.
A carpet beneath our feet.
We pass this way in silence:
The forest bears us home.

Into the red gold of autumn
Our straying footsteps roam.
As the shadows lengthen,
The forest calls us home.
